Travel search engine Kayak soars nearly 30% in IPO

Travel search engine Kayak soared nearly 30% in its initial public offering after raising $91 million (75 million euros) in its initial public offering (IPO), which had been delayed following Facebook's troubled debut last May, according to local media.

The Connecticut-based company's executives had planned to launch the stock market that month, but the social network's poor debut on the Nasdaq market, where it plummeted 16% in its first week of trading, ended up delaying the search engine's IPO.

The company's shares began trading bc data indonesia last Friday on the Nasdaq market, where some of the world's largest technology companies are listed, and by the midway point of the session they were up 28.23% to trade at $33.34 (27.2 euros).


The company on Thursday set its final IPO price at $26 (21.49 euros), above the range of between $22 and $25 it had initially planned, raising more than 75 million euros by putting 3.5 million shares on the market.

"Facebook's launch had implications for the market and so we decided to wait. But our business was still doing very well and we felt good about Kayak anyway," Kayak co-founder and chief technology officer Paul English told financial news channel CNBC.

Kayak posted net profit of $4.1 million (€3.32 million) on revenues of $73 million (€59.2 million) in the first quarter of 2012, up 39% on the same period last year.

The search engine, created in 2004 by the co-founders of Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz, has recently focused on its new applications for iPhone, iPad and Android, with the aim of making the search for flights, cheap hotels , rental cars and in general making this a good place to find cheap vacations more compatible.
