Filter with Timeline in Power BI
In today's class, you will learn how to use the timeline student data filter in Power BI! This feature is essential for filtering information by date, offering the flexibility of the timeline.

In this format, you can easily and practically define the period you want to analyze. Although there are other ways to accomplish this task, the timeline filter in Power BI provides greater precision when choosing specific dates.

To illustrate the difference this filter can make to your report in Power BI, I will first demonstrate how to perform the filter using a list and then using the timeline in Power BI.

Date Filter in Power BI – Data Segmentation
In the file available for download in this class, you will find a report with information about a company's sales history.

Power BI Report
The report includes data on total revenue, best-selling product, sales by brand, and sales by month and year.

However, in some cases, you may need to filter these analyses by more specific time periods, such as Q1 2018 or H2 2019, and so on.

To carry out this period delimitation, we can use data segmentations , that is, filters, within Power BI.

Simply create a slicer and select the column you want to filter by. Since we're interested in filtering by date, we can go to the Data tab , expand our Sale Date column , and select Year and Month for the Slicer Field .

List Data Segmentation
We did not select the entire Sale Date column as Power BI would by default create the timeline .

With this data segmentation, it is possible to mark the years and months that we want to display in the report.
