How to leverage search trends to increase sales

Throughout the year, various search trends emerge that we can take advantage of to increase our web traffic. Likewise, these search trends can be leveraged to increase sales of our products or services.

We can classify the types of trends into three fundamental groups:

Regular trends: those that we observe repeating themselves year after year .

Triggered trends: those triggered by certain brands when they launch a campaign to promote a product or service.

New spontaneous trends: they are a sudden trend in the sector, they can arise 'out of nowhere' .

Just like during the holidays, there are times of the year when purchase employment data there are higher percentages of sales . This depends on many factors such as: the time of year, the sector or the type of product / service that we are marketing.

But there are certain moments in common, when most brands know it's time to 'go out and sell'. What moments are we talking about? Well, Valentine's Day, Black Friday, January sales, Christmas, Cyber ​​Monday...

When these moments occur, we know that we must have a landing page optimized for the promotion of our products , since these days we can take advantage to sell products in stock that we have in the warehouse.

In addition, we can promote services that we consider may bring us future sales that will compensate for the discounts we have made during these days.

We must be aware that these days everyone is promoting their services, so our campaigns have to be 'on point' . We must be original enough to take advantage of that trend in a way that makes us stand out from our competitors .

In every sector, there are times when our potential customers are more likely to hire our services.

Normally, no sector has a constant search throughout the months of the year , because there are always fluctuations between one time of the year and another.

To find this out we usually monitor searches for the brand itself over the course of the last few years and searches for the main services , for example in the following graph we can see the search trend for: Nike Shoes.

As we can see, both the Nike brand and the generic search, 'sports shoes', have the same behaviour throughout the year; the first half of the year begins with a decrease in searches, but from August onwards, it begins to grow again until the Christmas period. The brand is aware of this behaviour, hence the reason why the textile sector launches a greater variety of product models in the second half of the year than in the first.

We know the search trends throughout the year, they have a controlled behaviour, so we launch the two strongest sales campaigns in the months where these trends are highest, so we still cause a higher growth in searches for the products.

Spontaneous trends
These are those that arise suddenly, unexpectedly, either caused by the discovery of some new development in the sector, or for example, by the media.

With the latter, it is very common to work with this type of trends when there are notable news stories, since they require an almost real-time update of the content to stand out above the rest of their competition.
